Hey,
I have a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer with the straight six. When I bought this vehicle it began making a funny clicking sound that sounded like the valves were in need of adjustment from valve lash. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from around 4 time because of it and was told it was normal engine noise, but knew differently. last year the suv started making a noise like a diesel engine!! I took it back to the dealer and asked what it could be. They told me that it was a main bearing and that the motor would have to be replaced.
I started reading up on main bearing issues but still have questions. Wouldn't the car loose oil pressure and over heat? This doesn't happen and why would I need a new motor for bad bearings.
I found out that there was a special policy Adjustment on straight six's motors in 2002 year 4.2L (LL8) Bore Liner Cracking. Here is the document ID# 1341528 and website I acquired it from: http://forums.trailvoy.com/showthread.php?t=427&page=2. The noise is sometimes intermittent and sounds like the noise that a piece of aluminum being hit with a piece of iron that is coming from the top front of the engine, not bottom like a bearing would make. What do you suggest I do? I am going to get a second opinion from someone I trust. Thanks for any info!
