'99 saab 9-3 making a gurgling noise

hey guys. i have a '99 saab 9-3 with about 133k miles on it which is making a gurgling noise. the noise fades in and out at like 3 second intervals and it seems like its loudest when i'm idling.

haven't noticed any other changes in performance. some quick searches led me to think it might be something with the air conditioning (which has been running a lot).

any clues?
