Places to stay without booking

We are visiting Bali for the first time for 2 1/2 weeks in June/July 2007 and have booked accommodation for first 2 nights. We are Dad Mum and girls of 10 & 12. We are likely to spend most of our time in other than the popular areas. Is it feasible to find places to stay once we get there?
