For the last couple of years, I have been playing a Fender Hotrod deluxe with a GT500 OD/Dist pedal. I used to love the tone that I got but as time went by, I was falling out of love with it. Probably due to the fact that I took our band from being rock to being red dirt and country. The tone was a little too heavy for what I wanted. I have always wanted a good clean tone which that amp just didn't do. It was a bit muddy. Last week, on a whim, I bought a used Mustang 3 1-12 to play around with. I used it Saturday night and WOW. I didn't have time to dial it in so I set up one amp model, a 57 Deluxe. On my neck pick up, it almost sounded like an acoustic but not in that fake way. On my bridge (hotrail) it broke up nicely in a very tube-like way. I kept a short slap-back delay on the whole time as well as a compressor for that poppy tele tone when I need it. The reverb is the best I have heard on a Fender that was made in the last 15 years. That being said, I will probably be selling off my pedals and shit. One 4 button switch will get the job done for me. Plus....it is about half the weight of the Deluxe. Let the hatin' begin.
