Sorry but this does not answer you question relating to surnames but I`m not sure if your interested I can point you to the location where Basildon Hall was. You could try Holy Cross church or St Nicolas church in your search as these are the 2 nearest parish churches which date back to well before the 18th century.
I used to live near where it was and although nothing remains of it you can still see the outlines of the building in the summer and the moat which surrounded it is still there. It`s now a small play park / field on a cul-de-sac called East Thorpe. If you google map East Thorpe, Basildon, you`ll see it there between the railway line and the row of houses running east west to the north of the line.
