One Tree Hill was named after a tree (surprise!) which stood at its highest point, where the trig point now stands. Used as a landmark by shipping in the Thames, it fell victim to a fierce storm during the First World War.
The historical aspect of OTH that still remains is the Vange Health Spa, a mineral well which remains, in delapidated condition, in Martinhole Wood.
