Yep, 1958. Lived in Laindon then - what a storm, I was under the table with my Dad's overcoat over my head - and it was so hot. Heard a story that John Day Senior was bowled over by a wave somewhere around Laindon Hotel - his hands were stuck inside his tight jeans pockets, so couldn't stop himself falling over!
