In my last post I spoke briefly about my vision for the district and stated that I have a plan. The plan that I have has several phases to it. The first phase and the one that I feel is the most critical is trust. Without trust nothing else really matters. I, youÖ anyone could be the most intelligent person in the room (which Iím not) presenting well thought out ideas for moving forward but without trust and the faith of the audience (residents) it is sure to fail. Execution of my plan or any plan requires team work and unity of the residents. It is this part of my plan I would like to focus on in this post. I will have additional posts prior to the May5 election that will be more technical and specific to the scope of work on moving forward.
Questions were asked regarding my dedication to this position and if I will be here in an emergency.
Friends and colleagues know and understand my commitment. I always complete tasks that I have taken on or asked of me. Quitting is not an option nor is saying (it canít) be done. Those are two words not in my vocabulary. There is always a way, sometimes it just takes a little longer than expected.
I recently missed a meeting with OBIC that I was invited to because of the Valero Refinery explosion. I was asked, will I be here for the district and the people during an emergency. Yes, I will be. Just like I was there for the folks at Valero. These types of upsets are very rare. It was simply poor timing. If I had to do it again I will say this. Yes, I will choose helping save lives and help others over politics.
Working with everyone regardless of my opinion or beliefs is very important. I do it everyday on the job. Being able to interact with others brings many things and successful execution of a plan is one of them. I am not aligned with a group or person. Iím an independent thinker who respects everyoneís opinion and intelligence. This plan was formed with information and concerns of many residents here in the district. Being political I would say from both sides of the lisle.
I was originally against the bond we are being asked to vote for. I agree with others that seating the new board was important. During the last meeting the board agreed to fast track the fine screen rehabilitation project. Moving forward with this project and I not having the details of any contract that might get signed is concerning. The district is relying on our emergency fund and the $30.00 increase we are paying to fund this. It puts the district in a difficult and challenging position if we have a hurricane. Also, I would like to reverse the $30.00 charge we have been assed if possible. I am unable to give a definitive answer until I see what financial position we are currently in. This is something the board needs to vote on.
I hope these answers help you with your decision. Above all, please get out and vote. Together we will succeed.
