There will be a budget meeting of the city council tomorrow night- Tuesday, 9/11/18 at 6:30 pm in the community center in which one of the main items on the agenda is a public hearing regarding our proposed tax rate. Currently the tax rate for the city is .385. The city voted two months ago I believe to raise the ceiling to .4 - not raise the tax to .4 but rather allow for the possibility of raising the tax rate to .4 at some later date. I was under the impression that last month, although they wanted to raise the actual tax rate to .4, it was decided to keep it at .385. Now it appears they again want to try to raise the actual rate we are taxed to .4.
I've attached the agenda content below for all to see. Notice it states PUBLIC HEARING about the tax rate. Well, it is not a public hearing unless the public actually comes and participates and gives their view on whether or not they want their tax rate raised. Please come let your voices be heard. If you can't come, then you can email the board and the mayor your thoughts at: email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org. Please participate for the the benefit of our community!
Personally I think Galveston CAD is already doing a fine job of raising our taxes by increasing our property values without our city also increasing the tax rate.
