So thoroughly confused, I called Vetgen, and spoke to a person, who spoke to a researcher. LOL
I told her about Max and the elusive "K".
This is what she said,
The "k" gene is tested for tan points or fawn and sable. Well, I don't know about you but do Tan points exist in Boston Terriers?
So.......
I sent this email.
We own a seal and white male Boston Terrier "Max". He in the last (3) years, has thrown; black, brindle, red, chocolate, blue, champagne, lilac & seal. We were interested in testing for "K" but are unsure what this test refers to. In other studies we have thought that "K" has referred to DOMINANT BLACK. Is this true in the boston?
My phone conversation with a individual fron your lab told me that "K" is the test for tan points & fawn/sable. As I've never seen tan points on a boston I this has left me with a quandary. Fawn is part of some bloodlines however, Max has never been bred to a fawn or fawn carrier.
What tests might you suggest for MAX?
In addition what is the persentage of Bostons tested, showing genotype "K".
Hopelessly confused,
Holly McManus
