The Best plan if you are planing on using the new boy as a stud dog, you should also make sure he is clear of Juvenal Cataracts, his BAER Test is done to make sure he has no Uni or Bi lateral Deafness, his CERF test (eyes) and OFA Patella(knees) Tests. Your girl should be done too. Also conformation, and disposition should be a factor for a breeding girl or boy.
Starting with a puppy you should try to find one from a breeder who has done these tests on both the parents of the puppy as well, though you should have these tests done on the puppy when grown if you want to use for breeding as well.
