Remember I said I emailed the state agency that regulates Medical facilities? Well, I got my response today. Below is a snippet of what was said:
"Based on the information you provided, it appears that discharge planning may not have been undertaken for your friend. If you feel that this was the case, you can call in a complaint to our toll-free complaint line at 1-888-419-3456. The complaint can be anonymous or you can give your name. If you give your name, you will receive a report about the investigation of your complaint."
The information was also sent to the investigative unit. Shall I file the complaint? Of course, with the information here, everyone can file a complaint. Let me know if you do and don't forget to tell them that when the nurse showed up, he was in bad enough shape that he was re admitted via the emergency room and had to be restablized before they could send him to Rehab. All the addresses and names of facilities are in the posts and they do show the dates of the sequence of events too. Feel free to complain as far as I'm concerned.
Deb did say he was released because of the $$ thing. Wuesthoff really dropped the ball here as far as I'm concerned.
I spoke with Deb and posting this and inviting anyone who chooses to file a complaint is okay with her. If you're thinking about doing it remember it's not just for Mickey. It's for all of us who might find ourselves in a similar situation someday.
On a positive note, I received an email from one of Mickey's friends who is familiar with the Rehab facility and feels it's quite a good one.
