Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that his mental abilities are improving. Perhaps once they get the kidney infections under control, they'll be able to focus more on mobility. Walking was sometimes difficult even before this latest incident as I recall...he had leg or knee problems....If he could stand enough to get himself from bed to a wheelchair, it might be sufficient to enable him to help himself enough to come home. The lifting of dead weight is impossible in a home setting.
The place he's been in is very nice, as these places go..but it can't take the place of home and the interaction that you get.
