I began hanging bodies for Bobby Sr. and Jr. when Jr. ran LMSC at Nashville. I worked on the first NCTS entry that Bobby put on the pole in his first truck outing at Martinsville. Bobby told me one time "You are like me. You will never leave Nashville. I love it here". Jr. was right in that Sr. said "People say it can not last if it is not in NC", and he set out to prove them wrong, which he did.
I think the decline in BHR began one year ago yesterday, when Sr. died. Sr. WAS BHR. He was so hands on that he was the extremely vital key element. He was just as successful in his first truck outing (from his backyard garage) as he was the day he died. BHR did not make Sr. successful; SR. made BHR successful. Without his direction and natural race car abilities, BHR became just another team. I mean no disrespect to anyone left at BHR, but I am sure they will also agree: Bobby was the key ingredient.
I don't believe the move to NC was the beginning of the end for BHR. I think it was a smart move, in that, had they stayed here and floundered (without Sr), they surely would have eventually closed the doors (just look at how much changed in the past year). By making the move, they are able to capitalize on what they DO have left, which is a long standing relationship with Dodge/Arrington. I think Lori siezed a good opportunity. 3 years down the road, the company may have been folded and she would have been left with the memories.
Smart move, from a business perspective. It sucks for the fans and for those who knew Sr., but he is gone, his influence is not there like it used to be, and I am sure he would rather Lori do exactly what she is doing than to have his work and dream die away as well............... Cash in while you still have something to cash in.
