Posted by Brian Lilley In his last communication with me, Brian Lilley (UK), expressed how interesting it would be if there could be a reunion of all the descendants of the men who were charged on that fateful day. What a challenging task it would be to locate the descendants of these people and have some sort of a celebratory get together. It could be Please anyone, let me know your thoughts on Brian's idea.

At the same time the Lilley brothers were charged with attempted murder and sentenced to be hanged, there were another nine able bodied young men from the Bedford and Wooten areas who were sentenced to 14 year terms and deported to New South Wales. Their crime....poaching. As Wayne Carter of Penant Hills, Sydney has already pointed out, one of them, Francis Axam was his great great Grandfather. Apparently none of these
men ever returned to England and eventually became respected citizens and some, very comfortable land owners in various parts of Australia.
Those men listed in Brian's book as being deported to Australia were -
John & Frank Axam, John & Oliver Leach, Thomas Millard, Thomas Saunders, John Beard, John Burton, Levi Curtis and Richard Hine. My question to Wayne is - Has your research brought you in touch with the descendants of any of these men?
used for the joint launching of Wayne's and Brian's books!!! Think about that...I mean we already have the Lilley's and Axams and the Beards
shouldn't be too hard to find in Tasmania.
All we need is to contact a few more of them.... plus have the books ready.
