Posted by Brian Lilley G'day Everyone, I am writing this to Lilley family members & anyone else who may be interested in the Lilley Family History. If this is not you then please Brian Lilley (not me) who lives in Bedfordshire UK. has written a book on the Lilley Family History spanning some 300 years. It is a great The central character is Brian's Great Great Grandfather Mathias Lilley who together with his brother William Lilley, were hanged in 1829. This The hanged Lilley brothers, Mathias & William were the Uncles of Samuel Lilley, my Great Grandfather who came to Australia in the 1850's and together with his wife Elizabeth Chandler started to extend the Lilley Family in Australia. All in all I can highly recommend the book. It is a serious addition to our Family History memorabilia collection but in addition to that, DON'T SEND ANY MONEY NOW but I do need to know who would like to order a copy of this once in a lifetime Family History keepsake. It is difficult to calculate the cost of the book at this stage because the size of the print run is not known. read, very well written and gives a powerful insight into this family's history from 300 years ago up to the present day. Brian is to be commended for his fantastic work and painstaking detail.
part of the book is in itself a powerful story and the reader can't help but feel angry (even after almost 200 years) at the pathetic way their
case was handled by the authorities in power at the time in England. Brian goes into great detail documenting these wrongful hangings. In
fact its the kind of stuff that if it happened today there would be so much community outcry which if ignored by authorities, governments could even be threatened.
because of the way it is written it is such a great read. But for everything in it all being true, it could almost be read as a novel. Unlike a lot of Family History books I have seen, this doesn't get bogged down in family trees, statistics and that sort of thing. However the 120 odd page book does contain an excellent selection of early photographs and copies of
supporting documents which are expertly blended in with the free flowing style of the book.
