Posted by Brian Lilley I had a Matthias Lilley amongst my notes but for some reason did not have him linked to his parents, Thomas Lilley and Mary West. Strangely Thomas & Mary's eight other children including William & Elizabeth were all christened It is interesting to note also that Matthias married Elizabeth Beldam in 1826 just three short years before he was hanged. They had time to have two children, Reuben (b. 1-10-1826) and Charles Beldam (b. 6-4-1828). The hanging must have been extremely hard on his wife & young family. West Lilley, who married Ann Hostler was another brother to Matthias & William.

Matthias & William were Uncles of Samuel Lilley (my great grandfather) who came out to Australia in 1861 with his wife Elizabeth Chandler. You can see a photo of them in the photo album attached to the family history site.
on the same day, 28 May 1815. So I gather something dramatic may have happened about then also. However records don't show that Matthias was included in this event. He would have been about 15 at the time.
