but that was a long time ago, when it was popular. Skitch called it "very Darrin Stephens" and it might not be a bad idea to tell your barber that you want a haircut like the original Darrin Stephens from Bewitched, aka Dick York. More than likely he will remember or know of it as York's hair/haircut was unforgettable.

Thanks again Buzzby for the most awesome pics. I just can't take my eyes away from the guy with that incredible slick side parted haircut. I want to make this my haircut for all time! I wonder what he is using in his hair - hair tonic? Brylcream? Wildroot? Did he just get the haircut, which would explain why the part is just absolutely perfect. This, to me, is THE definitive side parted haircut! - Looks like a Brylcreem product to me...

or something like it, maybe Top Brass. It doesn't look oily or slick enough to be Wild Root Creme Oil or any other tonic product and it doesn't look gummy enough to be one of the early gel products such as Groom and Clean. As far as the part, guys in those days were obsessed with getting a straight part and they worked hard at making sure they got one. It was in that same category as a starched shirt and polished shoes. I'm sure this guy would not have gone out with a crooked part; he seems too meticulously dressed otherwise. - Re: Just Checking In.

almost a "thing of beauty," that is if a haircut on a guy could be considered as such, but I think it probably could be. A lot of guys at that time had haircuts just like this guy's haircut. He was really more mainstream, than unusual. - Re: Just Checking In.

Go and get the haircut!!! I think I must have tried every haircut/hairstyle known to man while I was young up until about age 40, when I decided I no longer had enough youthful looks to carry it off anymore. Do it while you're young guys!!! Of course you can still do whatever you want until they bury you; but unfortunately, you have jobs, workplace requirements, etc. that you have to answer to... When you are younger, people tend to let you do weirder things with a little more leeway. - Re: Just Checking In.

Hey Buzzby enjoyed this one very much. I have anonymously enjoyed all of your life picture posts for awhile now and hope you come back and contribute again. I sport a tapered short back and sides alot like this and keep mine sharply parted and well groomed with either Wildroot, Brylcreem or Groom and Clean on a daily basis. Seeing all your pictures here inspired me to have the courage to start setting a sharp example like this and not be afraid to stand out with a haircut like this, to me it is a timeless classic. - Wow, cool...

I'm glad I inspired someone. But don't ever be afraid to stand out when you know you are well groomed and are sporting a haircut like this that epitomizes classic style. I would make a wager that far more people like these slick haircuts than don't like them. Classic is ALWAYS classic. For example, a "Caesar" haircut goes back 2000 years and yet George Clooney repopularized it just a few years back. Stand proud! - Re: Just Checking In.

Your posts and pictures are the reason why I slick my hair and put on a suit and tie each day. It has become a compulsion to the point of never being seen in public without a fresh slicked tapercut and a suit on. It's the absolute truth! The funny thing is.....I'm a retired stay at home dad. You must have a lot of energy and live in a much cooler climate than I do to do this every day; but I admire you for doing it! When you are younger and you must be, because you are a stay at home "dad" and not "grand-dad," you really should make an effort to try to look your best because you still have the looks to be handsome with just a little effort on your part. So slick that hair, put on that suit and tie, polish those shoes, go to the gym, make the effort and make those heads turn when you walk into a room. I'm at that time in life when heads no longer turn, but I sure can remember fondly when they did and I did turn a few in my time. You have no excuse not to be at your very best when you are young. Make the best with whatever God gave you for as long as you have the energy and health to do so. - Thanks to all who responded to this post...

For the kind welcome. It's nice to have been missed; but I am afraid I cannot make any promise in terms of continued posting.
There have been some wonderful postings in my absence, especially from Htflatnc, but I have to admit I am not partial to all these youtubes everyone posts. They are so fleeting and if I want to watch something, I'd sooner turn on the TV. You can never see any details on these youtubes and if you freeze a frame, everything is fuzzy. I much prefer photos to youtube on the Internet for our haircut postings, but that is my personal preference. Then when you add a catchy caption, they can actually become entertaining. - Miss you so much

and this guy from the card playing pic just goes to prove that guys like Bud from Pleasantville really did exist in real life and Dick York's character "Darrin" modeled himself after those real life "well groomed" slick haired guys, not the other way around. "Darrin" came second, not first.

Somehow it seemed to have a life of it's own and interestingly there was a point in time in which York actually sported a flat top haircut and looked good in it.

You know I actually watched some of these old shows this morning. Good grief, I had forgotten how amazing Dick York's hair really was; it was almost like it was from another planet or something - so perfect when combed and yet so very unperfect ans almost wild, when not combed - so greasy, yet so uncontrolled at times. I decided to post again... Kent McCord's haircut from those days is enough to bring anyone into the sunshine from the darkness. It was nothing less than awesome. It's only a shame that in those days he himself didn't appreciate it for how beautiful it really was; I know his producer did though because he is the one who required that he and Milner get them in the first place. Wow, hard to believe Kent McCord did not realize how awesome his own taper cut was. It is astounding to me that so many guys could suddenly believe that the awful looking long styles from the 60's and 70's looked good and all the easy to care for styles they had up till that time worn and liked, and thought they looked great in did not. It just doesn't make any sense at all. And it is happening again with middle school boys and the awful emo/mop/helmet hair/skater styles and it's much worse. But I can understand it more with middle school boys because at 12 and 13 most boys don't really know what looks good or bad as far as haircuts, but it is hard to believe that college guys were also bamboozled to thinking that the long styles looked great. But if one thinks about it. If the hair on college campuses for the average guy went really long around 1969 or 1970, then the freshmen who entered that year would have been 12 or 13 when the Beatles came to America, so that might explain a time lag; why college guys didn't instantly go really long. In any event, at least a haircut could cure 60's fashion delirium in short order, but with the enormous tattoos and massively stretched ear lobes of some of these kids, it will take major plastic surgery. On another website, there was this kid who was asking for help with his ear lobes because he was now looking for a job. He had these plugs in them that are at least an inch in diameter. Unbelievable that any parent would be so irresponsible as to allow a teenager to do something like that to himself. - I definitely do NOT understand the tattoos or ear rings affecting the ear lobes so significantly....

that surgery has to be performed later because the lobes become torn or distorted and I have known teenagers to which this has happened. Nothing in the name of fad or fashion is worth purposely damaging your body. It's bad enough due to drug or alcohol use, but there is a level of illness involved with that - tattoos and piercings - well that is another matter entirely. I don't understand it at all. But I DO understand wanting to grow your hair longer especially if it looks good when short. The idea is the old, "if a little bit is good, more must be better." Of course that isn't always true, but that has a lot to do with the general idea. It is true for a lot of guys and they did look good with longer hair and McCord still looked great with longer hair. Let's face it; he was/is just a handsome guy. However, in his case, he looked especially good with that short haircut - but like so many of those days, we gave in to what everyone else was saying was "the cool thing to do or the current fashion." I'm sure McCord thought if he looked good with short hair, he looked even better with long hair. It is only in retrospect that we can look back and think, "what was he thinking then?" But one thing is sure, that was one he-- of an awesome taper he had. He could have been the poster child for that haircut. Even Milner said in that first episode, "He wears the uniform well." Translation, "he's got one he-- of a damn good haircut." Also, I might add, McCord had just enough Brylcreem in his hair - enough to give it shine and glisten, but not so much that it looked like an oil slick. He just had the perfect haircut - a true thing of beauty. In fact, I would go so far as to say - probably the best taper cut of 1968 - at least of the ones on television.

They don't just wear pierced ear rings now days. They stretch or "gauge" the earlobes by wearing increasingly larger posts which they call "gauges." Then if that isn't enough or if it is taking too long, they actually start cutting the hole and putting a larger gauge in while it is still bleeding. They call this procedure "scalpelling." For instance the young man in the photo is about to get scalpelled from a 1/4" to a 5/8" hole. I can almost be certain the guy with the large gauges(fairly small compared to the kid I referenced in my earlier post) who is injecting him with some type of anesthetic to perform the scalpelling is not a medical doctor licensed to perform this surgical procedure. The young man getting this done is not some kind of freak but a good looking guy. I just don't get it...

There have been some pretty good posts, especially from Htflatnc and from "Anonymous" (who I think really is HTflatnc, though I can't prove it). Of course, these have been the LIFE pics, because Htflatnc pretty much took up where I left off. However, there hasn't been as many yearbook photos, which I always love (as everyone knows); but then I think these have been disappearing from the internet in general anyway as more of these sites are now requiring passwords, which is a pity. But all in all I think Webmaster's updates have been wonderful, as always, and in general, the posts haven't at all been dull - maybe just not quite as conversational as they had been in the past. It seemed our posts turned into dissertations on haircuts and haircut techniques. I don't know if that was due to me or not. Posts, now to me, seem much shorter now. Not duller, just shorter. - Re: Just Checking In.
