The purpose of this site is to supposedly to remember the past, not to comment on current events in Illinois. Sorry, I have been on both sides of this smoking debate and there is no simple answer. I live in Florida, so I will comment one way or another. Graduates of CHS in 1960's,let's start a thread remembering those great times.
Although a 1965 grad, I went to Catholic schools and Assumption High School for 2 years. Some of my memories are of East St. louis, so bare with me. From E. St Louis I have fond memories of the heated rivaley with East Side and Cathedral High, Prices, cruising State Steet and West Main in Belleville,Hannegans Drive Inn, Tonys Pizza House, the Stop Lite Inn, the beautiful girls of Notre Dame Academy, Jones Park swimming pool, and many other great things.
From St Louis, I remember the annual trips to the Forest Park Highlands, (remember the comet and the boblsed rides?) Going to baseball and football Cardinal games @ Old Busch Stadium, Hawk's game at the Kiel, the Forest Park Zoo,and the Beach Boys at the the Kiel Opera House in 1964?
From CHS days, I remember all the football and basketball games played, TP'ing yards, the Sr. Prom in the Statler Hilton ballroom, Panorama on Friday nights, all the pick-up games at Maplewood School and Parks College Gym's, the haunted house on Triple Lakes Road, parking at Mullen's Creek, hangin-out behind McDonalds, the Washington Park Teen Town, the Cahokia Lounge Coffee Shop, the Maplewood Pool Room, sneaking into Parks College parties @ the Rancho, the one eyed bandit @ Daisy's Bar, the wonderful and inspiring staff @ CHS, including-Mr Daniels, Miss Helen Dunn, Pete Truran, Mrs. Manfredini, and yes William Bailey. But most of all, my memories include the great friends I made along the way with my fellow classmates @ CHS. amotfbs
If any of you 60's people are out there, what are your memories? Maybe by sharing, we can all laugh or shed a tear.
