If you can find one (they're hard to find) then the Sony R1 is a nice bridge camera. It uses their own version of a CMOS sensor (less noise at higher iso speeds). Has an aperture range of f2.8 to f16, and iso range of 160-3200 (though the 3200 is pretty noisy). The fixed lens runs from a wide 24mm to a 120mm (so not a huge zoom).
