If you are using a memory card and you "delete" it and haven't filled up the card completely with new photos or videos, then you MIGHT be able to recover them.
When you click on "delete" when reviewing a photo or video, in a sense you're really not deleting it - you're just instructing the card that it can use that space to rewrite a new photo or video onto it when it needs the space as you take pics/video. If you "format" the card, most likely, the stuff is gone forever.
If you do a Google search on "memory card recover" then it will give you a list of articles on the topic as well as software options that are available to retreive possibly lost data from a memory card. Below is a link to that search result.
