While I don't mind helping out, you reallllllly need to study your manual with your A550. Many of the questions you're asking are covered in the user's manual, and we always suggest that people take some time to read their manuals as it will answer 95% of all basic questions.

That is the camera's default multi-focus. You need to find in the menu the AIAF area and turn it "off" or choose "center" - whichever the option is as I don't have one near me. This will disable that function and you'll only have one box in the very center all the time that you can use to focus on.
