If you buy from a major store such as Best Buy and Circuit City, any of the brands they sell would be fine for that type of use. If you want to archive your disks for a long time, you want to look for "gold" archival disks. Not quite as easy to find, but they last longer.
You would then need a software program that allows you to create a slideshow onto a DVD that will play on a DVD player, such as Adobe Premier Elements, or any other number that are available in stores.
