The type of camera that's best depends on the type of photography you want to do, and while KODAK cameras are in the U.S. the most popular brand, typically they get only average scores on tests for their image quality.
This isn't to say they're "bad" cameras. They're usually easy to use and for 4x6 prints or in some cases/models a 5x7 they're fine. But for larger prints or low light photography or even action shots, they're not the top notch models. They are however, among the most affordable.
The Canon A-model series usually ranks the highest for image quality in the consumer-user category, just "fyi".
