When your camera's "buffer" fills up (such as when you're using the burst mode), and it begins writing the images to the card, a high speed card will speed things up a bit. Likewise, when shooting in RAW mode, some feel that higher speed cards are a bit speedier when saving images. For shot-to-shot JPG images typically there is little difference on digital SLRs.
When using a point-and-shoot model and using the video mode, high speed cards work best due to the high amount of memory needed to record video.
Best deal: Sandisk Ultra II series from Costco.
