As far as the lens, there is a sliding cover on the front of the camera that opens to expose the lens. I keep it closed when not in use. Yes, you can, however I have not tried that feature yet, but when I do I will post the results. I'm sure it works pretty well. You know, at 1.3 pixels, it holds about 70 pix and they come out very sharp and clear. The batteries last about 3-4 months, but get the very best type (made especially for digital electronics)...
