I came upon your website during a search for basic information on digital cameras. I have been photographing for many years, and although I may not be great, I am enthusiastic. I currently own cameras in 35mm, medium format, and several (more than that even) Minolta S-1's in APS format. I have been using the Minoltas and the various zoom and fixed lenses with good success. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to purchase fresh film and with the medium format cameras, getting someone to process and print in the area(s) in which we live; Punta Gorda, FL and Long Beach Island, NJ. So, my kids are always on me to advance to at least the 20th Century if not the twenty-first. Everyone has encouraged me to "go digital" allowing that it offers many more options. I have been having Kodak CD's made with each print order so that I can download them to the computer and transfer, print and/or send them out. But digital photography along with brain surger y have been on my "short list." That is until I discovered your informative website, written on a "Dick and Jane" level. I was to take a course offered locally, but could not attend in that I had other committments. Previously, I had ordered (online) a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 and am awaiting delivery. Along with the camera, from a separate souce, I have on order a 4GB memory card,
2-1400 mAh batteries with 110 and 12 volt chargers, a card reader, 46mm (same size as some S-1 lenses) UV, PL,FL filters and a Panasonic case. This camera was recommended by a friend who has one and loves it. I did read some positive reviews, but frankly, until I accessed your site I couldn't understand much of the reviewed information. You have given me the confidence and the will to definitely bridge the gap. I cannot wait until we return to our Florida home to begin photographing our local bobcats from a relatively safe distance with that Leica superzoom lens. Sorry about the extreme length of this email, but I feel so much relief after reading your article and have a much better grasp of digital camera photography. Thank you, I will send a donation.
