Thank you for your comments, Norm.
A couple of things, and hopefully the second one won't discourage you:
First, I haven't updated the site in a long time, so please look forward to some updating in the camera review and good camera areas within a month or two. For a variety of reasons I had to put this site on hold, but left it up online, realizing that the reviews were for older cameras. Still, updates ARE on the way (eventually), so stay tuned.
Second, and I hope this isn't bad of me to tell you this, but the Panasonic FZ18 has recently been replaced by the FZ28. You can read about it on this UK site here: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0807/08072104panasonicfz28.asp
Didn't mean to pop a bubble on that. The FZ18 is still a great camera and I'm not sure what you paid for it, so you may have got it at a good deal. The FZ28 will add some resolution, a wider angle on the lens, and a few fluff features, but will initially be full price when it comes out. You could stick with the FZ18 or send it back and get the new FZ28, but if you're new to digital and are just learning the ropes, the FZ18 will probably be plenty for you until you learn all the basics. By then they'll probably have a FZ38 or something and you can go up from there. ;-)
Stay tuned to the site and practice with your new camera.
