If I'm reading this correctly, it's simply a limitation of how close you can get with that model of camera.
Some cameras can get as close as a few CM, while others can't get any closer than a couple of inches or more while in macro mode (your user manual should tell you your camera's range limitations while in macro). Most will not focus correctly if you try to use the zoom while extremely close to the subject, as they are at their limit already in wide angle mode. Zooming puts it beyond the focus ability.
Your best bet - take a full sized image as close as you get get in wide angle, and crop around the parts you want, leaving only them so it appears as though it was closer (or buy a different camera with a better macro feature).
