Thanks for the prompt reply. I was sure that there was only so much data available and if you start tweaking, there has to be a compromise in another part of the gray scale. I have been using Photoshop since it was first released - 20 minute to load...

This camera seems to meet most of my needs and budget, but your comment seems to confirm what others are saying about the shorter dynamic range of this camera.

Since I am still using neg film and a scanner, can you comment on the general comparison of the dynamic range of film vs current digital capture? I have never used digital camera.
