Film typically has a greater dynamic range across the board than digital sensors do. Typically, the larger the digital sensor the better the dynamic range *should* be. For instance, a "full frame" sensor should have better range than that of a typical DSLR which is smaller, but the Olympus 4/3 sensor is slightly smaller than a typical DSLR's as well, making the dynamic range slightly worse.
Fuji makes one DSLR (S5) that has a greater dynamic range than others, but it's only a 6MP camera and rather expensive and slow - depends on what you need it for. Sensors are catching up, but for now, most of the time yes, film probably still has more dynamic range.
