I have read that DSLRs use much larger sensors than PnS cameras and therefore an 8MP DSLR will produce a much better pic than my 8MP PnS Canon SX100 camera.
Having said that, what if I take photos at lower resolution with my camera (5MP, 3MP, etc); will the entire area of the sensor chip (1/2.5 CCD) be used as compared to taking at 8MP resolution?
If yes, would my camera take better pictures at lower MPs? (since the ratio of sensor size to MP is now higher)
