I went through this a year ago and that's how they get into your walls and ceilings. 3) If using traps in the upstairs attics, use Laura Scudder Peanut Butter to bait the trap. No joke. Based on some feedback from some friends who have gone through the same problem, rats are atracted to natural peanut butter than the artificial brands. 4) Remove any pet food left on patios that attracts the rats--they are also attracted to ivy and bougainvillea as well.
