Hi all, Michelle was just rolled into surgery to remove the skull cap they put on 5 weeks ago. The doctors discovered an infection in her brain that created additional fluid build up which caused some vision changes for her. We were in the ER Wednesday night until midnight and then sent home under the impression everything was fine. Then her neuro surgeon called me the next day and told me to bring her back to the hospital and admit her for more tests. Those tests indicate an infection in her brain. The skull cap will be removed and frozen again to put back on possibly in six months. Michelle is very much aware of what is going on and hopefully this won't set her back for very long. She does have to have an IV antibiotic set up via a PICC line in her arm to receive antibiotics for the next six weeks. Once they clear the infection and let the natural healing process take over and are confident the brain is clear of any foreign bodies or microorganism story will put her her flap back in, all the will probably take 6 months.
