moving horse rather than the floor or a ball. The movement of the rear of the horse is the same as what is needed for a human in walking (ie alternate rotating and reaching and rhythm) and that motion is transferred to the rider while seated bareback on the horse. In addition to muscle action patterning, there is also brain patterning going on. Other activities to fit the capacity of the rider take place on the horse also. The session is conducted by a Physical Therapist with Hippotherapy training, and is accompanied by sidewalkers for safety and an experienced horse handler. One place I know the service is provided at NCEFT in Woodside (nceft.org), and they have a hoist for mounting. One Step Closer in Morgan Hill may have something, but I don't think they have a PT to conduct the session (osctr.org).
