A friend called me out of the blue...he'd bought a horse for his daughter, kind of a spur of the moment, the owner needed help thing. He needed a place to keep this horse for 'a couple weeks until I find a permanent boarding situation for her'. Could he keep the horse at my house. I agreed to two weeks only AND he would have to provide ALL food and supplements and keep her pasture clean etc.
Horse shows up, very underweight. I put my boys together so she can have her own pasture/shelter. They bring food and tell me they will feed at night if I can feed in the morning...no problem I just won't supply any of the food, they need to provide it.
Horse has been at my house for almost SIX WEEKS!
Dad has since agreed to take on a SECOND HORSE but has to figure out how to haul it to the pasture he found for THAT HORSE. Supposedly is bringing this horse up to his mom's friend near where he lives but have yet to see any movement on that either.
Girl comes out maybe once a week, for a few minutes, to jump on and show off in front of her friends. NEVER texts to let me know if she has fed or not nor asks me to feed. Has never cleaned horses poop etc. The dad did clean a couple times when he was here but he doesn't live nearby so is only here very part time. Has borrowed brushes etc from me without returning them and has used my feed tubs to feed her horse without asking. Needless to say, beyond the fact the TWO WEEKS have come and gone, this family has very much overstayed their welcome and are now flat out taking advantage of me. I get up early every morning just to feed this horse (my boys are on hay nets that I check and refill as needed after work). I have given them a deadline of this Sunday to get her out but it's been crickets with communication and she's yet again about to run out of hay (happened twice already). They signed an agreement and liability release etc, but I don't know what I'm gonna do if this horse is still on my property when the sun goes down on Sunday. This has sure soured me from ever doing anyone a favor like this again. Sorry for the rant but I had to get it off my chest. Thank you!
