is anyone familiar with problematic hard wired smoke detectors?

My smoke detectors keep going off. Sometimes briefly and sometimes for a long period. My first attempt at a fix is to replace the back-up battery that seemed to work for a while but then it started up again. Last year I bought a new replacement for the problem smoke detector and that worked until now. Do smoke detectors wear out or go bad? That unit is a problem now so I unplugged it and now another one is acting up. The easiest fix is just to disconnect them and get new battery operated ones but I'd like to know what is going on and wonder if it would affect the fire sprinklers they are probably connected to. My CO detector also went batty just before the smoke detectors did. The window shows no problem with gases, and after replacing the battery shows that the battery is good. If you have any experience I'd appreciate your sharing. |
