Punctures were common.
My practice now is to change the tube whenever a tyre is removed. My tube of choice is a Michelin must be in its box and supplied by a respectable supplier [Kidderminster motor cycles in my case]Since taking up this practice I have had no on journey failures. I do always carry a spare tube[one I have changed after a tyre removal] and on two occasions have been able to help out fellow motor cyclists.
Okay this practice cannot rule out onroad failure but it cuts the chances. Humbernuts tube I"ll stake my life was not a Michelin.A good tube with tyre creep pulls out the valve , does not split and break. The break is far from the valve I guess a Chinese tube or a tube more than 15 years old
