MM.I tend to think you are viewing it as you are today, not as a sixteen year old in 1960. I had a new FB Mondial Sprint, virtually identical to Mr Newbies, as for "lacking performance" I can assure you there was't anything British of the same capacity that could keep with it. I grant you it was an old plunger A7 and it was two up, but the Mondial see it off on a twisty piece road,I did only weigh ten stone wet through at the time.
Can you tell me what was "inspiring"about a 175 Bantam?
Honda have an Ex works Mondial in their museum which was given to them by one of the Boselli Brothers, when Mondial retired from racing in 1957, from which Honda obtained a lot of knowledge. So I don't think Mondial, and the Italian motor cycle industry lacked too much know how on how to build high performance engines.
