It's all true, Geoff. Tell you what, I'll demonstrate it to you next summer, on a dry day of course. If we go for a ride across Dartmoor, me on the RS and you on your R3, you'll find I get there much faster on the old Boxer - not really because of its amazing handling, although I once heard a lady police rider down your way describe how she just kept up with a stolen Fireblade on her police R80 and waited til the crim tried to put a knee down on a roundabout and fell off in agony.
No, the real reason I'll arrive sooner on the old clunker is that I won't have had to refuel or stop for new tyres!!
Having said that, the new Boxers are probably faster on roads simply because of the better view the riding position gives allowing you more time to plan. I was certainly much faster on my FJ1200 than on the Blade because I could see much further ahead. Not that I was ever quick, it's all relative, just less pedestrian, perhaps!
