Interesting thoughts folks. My own viewpoint is that I do use one very occasionally, but it is one that you have to pre-load with a route you've generated in google-maps. It just tells you which way to turn at junction with an arrow - no annoying voices and no in built route planning. I hate and detest the ones which route plan and tell you which way to go.
I spent the first 8 years of my working life on the road fixing computers all over the country, and all we had was a road atlas and an address. I never had a problem getting anywhere back then, and I still don't now.
One of the biggest benefits of Sat Navs IMHO, is that they tend to concentrate all the traffic onto trunk roads, thus leaving the secondary routes nice and clear for those of us fortunate enough to be able to read a map. It's an ill wind as the old saying goes.....
You don't have to be crazy to post here, but it helps....
