I made one of similar construction some years ago and it worked beautifully, but as I got older (and unfortunately we all do) I decided to get a hydraulic bench. My reasoning was that it meant that I could then work on even polish wheel rims, and work on the frame/engine at heights that meant no more knee bending and so no more aching back and no more sore knees.
When rewiring for instance I was able to wire up the headlight etc, and then merely pump the bench up and work on the stop light switch and rear light without bending. Such are the needs of an older body. When it is not in use I simply turn it on its side and lean it against the wall.
