2 strokes are conventionally lubricated via the mixed fuel plus oil in the crank case. So they don't need a costly oil pump but they then require roller or ball bearings which don't need pressure feed. But then new ideas and new economics arrive and different ideas appear.
Remember. .. most older ( pre WW2) 4 strokes had balls or rollers before plain bearings became the norm after advances in manufacturing methods and materials made them the norm.
