83 mph on my highly tuned Bantam (assisted by George Todd) on Northwich bypass. Producing a BSA brochure showing 64mph top speed resulted in an embarrassed Copper, but I still got a rollicking.
Same bike averaged 68mph cross-country over a Police monitored measured 2 miles - same brochure got me off with another rollicking.
We used to ride the switchback through Delamere Forest (long since tamed) and set a speed that caused the suspension to harmonise with the humps - usually mid 50s - at which point the bikes would float and take off at the following humps, very weird. Got a right roasting from Sergeant one evening & then made to ride back & to for half an hour behind his car at 35mph.
Caught towing a bike trailer home with no lights - tailboard ordered but hadn't arrived - Copper confirmed he could see car's lights so let me off with a requirement to present for re-inspection at The Black Cat on A1 at 10:00 on Sunday. When I got there he passed sentence, once lights were checked OK, I had to drive back-up recovery for a Matchless club run he'd organised! Had a good day and made a new friend!
