Well you may be right but only for as long as you are within the design life of the adhesive. and few, particularly in the automotive industry, are designed with the sort of life span you have described. Indeed cars like those crappy old Protons were never designed to last that long, never mind the thin film of adhesive. Did it never occur to you that after all those years you really should change the shoes and pads, for the sake of your own and your family's safety? If you have changed tyres then you should frankly treat the brakes with the same respect.
