The first Holdens had handbrakes which were useless, as were the vacuum windscreen wipers. Back axles could snap at speed, and the driver would look out of the window to see his wheel overtaking him. Also universal joints would drop a tailshaft onto the road.
Firewalls would develop cracks, front mudguards would move up and down on bumps until one screw was tightened,6- volt headlights were useless,door handles would break off.
The only oil filter was a wire-type strainer in the sump, which, if using Castrol oil, meant that it would clog and wreck the engine.
