I did indeed buy a tank from India for my 750 Fastback Commando (red of course).
The supplier was as Hampy said pummie.8081.
I understand after recommending him to two guys on Farts Book recently that they are pleased with his products. If you find him on the bay, remember to make an offer and you will probably save up to £40 off his Buy It Now price.
The tank "dry fitted" and exactly as it arrived.
The old tank and the new steel one! I cannot remember which one is which.
Tank fitted onto the bike. So far, so good.
Ta Da. The finished item.
Good alignment on the frame, and to the seat etc.
T'other side and still looking good IMHO.
A couple of points for consideration. I bought it in raw finish. This was so that if anything did not fit then I could correct it without worrying about the finish. It was lightly oiled so raw finish was OK.
The other important reason for not buying pre-painted was that I wanted a show quality paint finish, and wanted to know that it had been cleaned and pre-treated by a known paint specialist.
I checked every thread and dimension to make sure everything would line up properly before I took it to the painter. Everything was absolutely spot on, but if I bought another one I would do the same thing for my own peace of mind.
All threads were checked to ensure the correct thread form had been used, and each one was cleaned out with my own taps.
I had mine pressure tested for leaks by my painter before he did any work on the tank. It did not leak but better safe than sorry IMHO.
I would recommend buying it WITH the filler cap. That way the neck of the tank is prepared and pre-drilled on the Commando. On an A10 it would also mean that the neck of the tank will accept a filler cap.
Fussy? Me? Probably.......errr well yes actually.
