Thanks guys. Hermes 'lost' a knackered old Barbour jacket I sold through Ebay a year ago. I complained and asked them to search their central hub where the tracking ended, but they were adamant it wasn't there. So I got to refund the buyer and claimed postage costs from Hermes.
Lo and behold, the buyer emails me a month later to say the jacket had just been delivered! They paid me the money I refunded them as well. So that one turned out alright in the end.
As to DVLA, if you 'lose' a V5C, you will have to pay £25 to replace it, whether you lose it; RM lose it; or DVLA lose it. And for the "privelege" of obtaining a V5C for a bike no longer on their system which therefore requires a 'new' V5C despite you having the old buff log book, and it will have to be confirmed by a recognised motor cycle club, and accompanied by the sum of £55, and I have two bikes that come under that category; one off the road since '79, and an import.
One gets a bit hot under the collar at such times.
