Bonny Geoff you're lucky. I've been with the same doc for 35 years and only seeing him about once every 5 or 6 years, usually for some self-inflicted injury.
Feeling left out when my pals discuss their Cholesterol levels (mine has never been checked) I asked the receptionist at my health centre to have a test done. She asked me if I had any symptoms and I replied: "Not as far as I'm aware". She told me in that case a test was unnecessary.
Later I looked up the symptoms on the web: 'Stroke. Heart attack. Sudden death'.
A couple of weeks ago I had to see my doc about a hand injury sustained whilst bashing a brick out of my garden wall to create a hedgehog access. I mentioned that the News is rife with recommendations for having a prostate cancer check but the test is apparently unreliable and inconclusive so what should I do as I usually have to get up twice a night? As he stood up and moved to open the door he said: "You're 73 what do you expect?". And that was that.
