In a similar example, our farm where we live as tenants was burgled twice in one month. A neighbour witnessed a van departing, and by chance another neighbour happened to be at the petrol station in Broseley when there was a kerfuffle after a van matching the same description attempted to enter the forecourt from the 'wrong' end. They were caught on CCTV. It took the police a week to watch the footage after several prompts from the burgled. When eventually they did watch it, the officer in charge went on leave for two weeks, and would take up the case upon his return.
With this kind of police support, thieves are in their element. They are bold, because they know they can get away with just about anything. A couple of cartridges in the breech may be the only deterent. Then 'you' are in deep doo doo.
